GEORGE RICHTER SR.
Owner Luby Bay Resort
1940
My Grandfather George Richter Sr and Carter Carlsen, my Grandmother Hilda's, brother did indeed sell Luby Bay Resort to the Timm's in 1948-1949 after they built the lodge and several cabins. They had a old model -T Ford engine that ran the electricity for certain times of the day. They sold block ice they cut from Chase Lake and Priest they sawed up during the winter (I have several pictures/ in fact I have over 700 pictures of Priest Lake and the Resort from the 30's and 40's)They sold ice for one cent a pound and when they raised the price to two cents the customers got angry. They purchased the resort I believe from Schneider in I believe 1939. My Grandfather owned several grocery stores in Spokane. One was on Hamilton, one downtown Spokane, and one near Audubon Elementary School. His father, Julius was the first harness maker in Spokane and had a stable on East Riverside. He made the first harnesses for the fire and police departments back in the early 1980's. My grandfather George Sr quit school after grade six to work with my Great grand father. I have many other story if anyone would like to sit down with me sometime. i.e. Millie, first telephone at Luby Bay Resort, and slot machines...
